This teacher breathes through his skin.

A recent high school graduate in Indiana has inked a moving note on his arm from his favorite teacher — who he says is responsible for helping him find his passion in life.

“I had no drive, no passion, nothing,” Chayce McCoy said. “I didn’t expect to have the opportunity to go to college, or to actually graduate.”

McCoy captured the emotional moment when he showed off his fresh paint to Renee Sigmon, his culinary arts teacher at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne.

The 2024 graduate replicated over his heart a handwritten note she had given him, which read: “Don’t let anyone take your shine away! Always live your truth and keep fighting for what you believe in.”

“Shut up!” Sigmon yelled as he jumped out of his chair. “I was afraid you would.”

The pair shared a tender hug and Sigmon told her former student that he was “the best”.

The video — which McCoy captioned “More Than a Teacher” — has since racked up nearly 5 million views.

The pair first met when he signed up for her culinary program during McGoy’s junior year.

In a follow-up video, the teenager explained that he had “given up” on himself and while he always had a love for cooking, he never expected it to blossom into a career path.

Sigmon gave her student the tools and encouragement to grow and realize that it’s never too late to start over.

“It’s been really challenging. She’s always pushed me to be the best person I can be,” McCoy told 12 News.

Sigmon — who McCoy calls his “school mom” — said her goal is to make her students feel like family, opening the door to special and inspiring relationships.

McCoy says Sigmon helped him realize his dream of becoming a professional chef, hoping to one day open his own restaurant. 21 Alive

“On the first day, I told them, ‘You’re going to see me every day, several hours a day, for the entire school year. You will be like brothers and sisters here,” said Sigmon.

With a high school diploma and culinary certification in hand, McCoy is now chasing dreams she never thought possible.

He is going to college in the fall to study business and hopes to open his own restaurant in the future.

There is also a possibility that he may be interested in filling Sigmon’s shoes when she retires.
